Message from our Area Director

June 5, 2012

Fellow MiDiv Members,

MiDiv will welcome the International Formula SAE Competition to Lincoln Air Park for the first time on June 20-23. This will include over 80 teams – 1200 students and their sponsors as the event moves to our Division from Fontana, CA.

The concept behind Formula SAE is that a fictional manufacturing company has contracted a design team to develop a small Formula-style race car. The prototype race car is to be evaluated for its potential as a production item. The target marketing group for the race car is the non-professional weekend autocross or solo racer. Each student team designs, builds and tests a prototype based on a series of rules whose purpose is both to ensure onsite operations and promote clever problem solving. Sounds just like the future member of SCCA that we are looking for, doesn’t it?

The SCCA will be providing volunteers to bring our technical expertise and event knowledge in support of the competition. The activities range from tech inspection to a full autocross event as well as judging design, operating acceleration runs, a skid pad completion and a 22 lap autocross endurance event with driver change!

These young men and women are a huge part of the future of motorsports. SCCA recognizes their importance and will be providing the student teams with complimentary memberships and our New Member Guide.

We still need to fill several positions. I urge you to volunteer to be a part of this inaugural event at Lincoln for a day or more. It is a great opportunity for us to give these teams a look at who and what SCCA is about and to support this world class event.

Yours For The Sport,

Lisa Noble
