Carol Cohn wins national award

February 22, 2009

SCCA’s first ever “Worker of the Year” award was presented to our very own Carol Cohn at the 2009 National Convention in Las Vegas.

Approved in 2008 by the Board of Directors through a 20-year private endowment by an SCCA member, the Worker of the Year is given to the volunteer who shows the greatest commitment to SCCA motorsports activities, be it in Club Racing, Rally or Solo. This person should personify the SCCA volunteer, who gives of his or her time and effort toward helping organize, work in a specialty or any volunteer role necessary to a motorsports event.

The recipient will be awarded a trip to any motorsports event anywhere, with any sanctioning body. Nominees shall have a minimum of five years of service with SCCA events and may not be a paid SCCA staff member, current Board of Directors member or any member who is a paid consultant to SCCA.

Carol was speachless when realizing what was being said was fitting with what she has done in her many years with the SCCA. She kept saying “that’s me-they can’t mean me”. Carol was too shocked to cry, but I was doing enough for her. Carol says she loves being in the SCCA and feels that what she has accomplished is no big deal because she has enjoyed it so.

The presentor mentioned that there were many worthy people nominated and many years going forward to recognize them BUT that it was only fitting that the inagaural trophy be given to Carol.

It was a night to remember and there were many people congratulating Carol even this morning as we were boarding for home. Carol and I have been convention partners for a few years now and she has guided me in many an endevor. I was thrilled to be part of her night.
