2008 Region Award Winners

Over 130 people attended the St. Louis Region SCCA Annual Awards Banquet Saturday, January 17 at Spazio’s in Westport. Along with the program award winners being honored, the region recognized many members for their work this year. A special thanks to Nadeem Bari as Banquet Chair and his committee, Sheila Burkett, Jeff Seelig, Curt Faigle and Cesare Venegoni. Thanks to Awards Chair Jeff Seelig and his committee Carla Russo, Andy Hohl, and Terec Morgan-Wilson.
2008 Award Winners
Special Awards of Excellence were presented to Eileen vonHatten, James Elterman and the Wednesday Night PDX Program.
Peter Zekert received the Club Racing Driver of the Year for his Runoffs victory in the GT-Lite class and the help he has offered others throughout the year.
Club Racing’s Most Improved Driver award went to Trey Scott.
John Powell received the Solo Driver of the Year after winning the highly competitive STU class and offering continious help to other drivers.Kyle Langley was recognized for his performance regionally and nationally and received the Solo Rookie of the Year.

The Solo Most Improved Driver award went to Adam Shipley.

Rob Wright was recognized as the Rally Cross Rookie of the Year and the Rally Cross Most Improved Driver went to Mike Byington who was also a Rally Cross National Champion.

The 2008 Mechanic of the Year went to Dave Jones.  Dave was recognized as a mechanic who lent a hand to many drivers throughout the year.

Andy Hohl recieved the honor of 2008 Worker of the Year.

The 2008 Event of the Year was the September Rally Cross National Championship and was presented to Mark and John Huebbe who were program chairs this year.




Each year the Regional Executive recognizes a club member who they feel have gone beyond the call of duty and could always be relied upon to assist the RE.  The 2008 RE Award went to Paul Nittel.  Paul is chief of EV at all Club Racing events, is a member of the club racing committee, works and attends most Solos and headed the 2008 Board Elections as well as participated on Nominating Committee.  His dedication is greatly appreciated.
The final award of the evening was the Spirit of the Region Award.  This year the 2008 PDX INSTRUCTOR TRAINING GROUP was recognized for their excellent work in the region and at a national level.
