RoadRally Update: Register Now for Our Terrific October Regional Event—the Gateway Cup Challenge
Registration is open for our next two Regional road rallies, the Great River Road Tour Saturday, Oct. 10, and the Route 66 Ramble Sunday, Oct. 11.
Together, the two daylong time-speed-distance road rallies comprise our Region’s Gateway Cup Challenge, our occasionally occasional dual-rally Regional road-rally weekend. Both are Touring rallies, no traps or puzzles to solve, just straightforward fun driving. You may enter one rally or both, as you choose.
Both rallies share the weekend with the SCCA’s 31st United States Road Rally Challenge® Oct. 8–11 and are designed specifically with the new or occasional rally team in mind. Each rally is a seat-of-the-pants (SOP) event. No special rally equipment is required (or allowed). You may use a cellphone or tablet app that can provide a GPS odometer as well as the usual navigator’s kit—clipboard, pencils (pens), paper, and a simple four-function calculator. The goal, as we’ve already said, is a fun drive, a little adventure, a pinch of competition, and nothing more.
The Comfort Inn on Illinois 157/Historic 66 in Edwardsville, Ill., will serve as our weekend rally headquarters. On Oct. 10, Saturday’s Great River Road Tour will start at the Melvin Price Locks & Dam 26, National Great Rivers Museum in Alton, Ill., and explore the country roads along the Mississippi and Illinois rivers, from Alton to Hardin, Ill., and back. On Sunday, Oct. 11, teams will depart from our rally headquarters, the Comfort Inn in Edwardsville, for an exploration, not only of Historic 66, but also of the delightful winding country roads that parallel it between Edwardsville and Litchfield, Ill.
The entry fee is $70 for one event or $120 for both of them.
