RallyCross
RallyCross is the most widespread and readily accessible form of dirt motorsport in the SCCA, and the perfect place to see if you have what it takes to power slide your way to victory. Imagine a scaled down version of a rally stage laid out on a non-paved plot of land where the course is delineated by traffic cones instead of trees or rocks.

About RallyCross (RallyX)
RallyCross or RallyX, is a test of driving skill and a cars mechanical ability in a time trial setting with the added spin of being on dirt and gravel surfaces as opposed to the pavement used in our sister AutoX program. Our RallyX events usually take place in large open fields and gravel lots and feature elevation changes, gravel, packed soil, and a variety of other off-road surfaces depending on the weather and season. RallyX is a sport where, while the type of car can affect the outcome, it’s really the drive that makes or breaks a fast time. Our program is geared towards making the competition as fair as possible for every kind of driver and skill level. Speeds are limited and on our course via our course designs and said course design is always made with the safety of drivers and spectators alike in mind. The entry fees and equipment requirements are considerably less than those necessary to enter any other forms of performance rally, so in most locations one need only arrive at event registration with a safe hardtop vehicle and the entry fee. Many SCCA Regions have helmets to loan and will assist the first-time competitor with entering the appropriate class, making their way through technical inspection and finding their way around the course. Best of all, it’s great fun!

Our History
Our program started back in 2005 as part of the SCCA's goals to expand the number of programs offered in our region to make sure every kind of racer had a program to call home. Since Missouri is home to several local rally races we have a wealth of Rally enthusiasts who have come to compete and help the program grow. While in the past the program has been on and off again under different people and with varying attendance, as of 2016 has started to see consistent growth in the region and we hope to continue that growth into the future.
Rally culture in the STL region has proven to be one of the most down to earth group of racers you can find. While there is definitely a sense of competitiveness, the members of our community never hesitate to lend a helping hand and to make sure everyone is having fun.
The people and vehicles that compete in RallyX are the most widely diverse collection of things you will likely find in the SCCA. We allow many classes of trucks and SUVs so the cars that show up range from Dodge Neons to Ford Raptors and F250's and the owners come from all walks of life so it's very easy to find someone to connect with and to fit in without our group.
Getting Started
Before the event, here are some preparations you'll want to consider.
Make sure that there are no conflicts between your plans and the Rules (Is your child old enough to ride along? Is your vehicle RallyX legal? Do we need to know about medical conditions, etc….)
When you register for the event we will need to know what number you would like to run as well as what class you intend to compete in.
We will be more than happy to help you figure out how to class your car if you are having trouble understanding the rules. You can contact us via our contact information at the bottom of this page.
We never charge you until the day of the event after we confirm with you that we can charge the account you registered with
You can pay in cash the day of the event even if you registered online. We just won’t charge your card.
If you don’t show up the day of, you also will not be charged.
Keep in mind that there with be a $5 fee to register the day of the event so be sure to register ahead of time.
Pre-registering helps speed up our check-in process so the more people who pre-register the faster the event can get started.
The Tech sheet can be found on the Rules and Regulations page
Please print this sheet out and run through the checklist at some point before the event.
Novices will have their car teched by our Chief of Tech, but all other competitors will go through a brief check and accept what is claimed on the tech sheet so make sure to be thorough. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
If you have any questions or are unsure, please don’t hesitate to contact us at rallycrosschair@stlscca.org or PM any of the Admins on our Facebook Page.
We have loaner helmets on site so this is not a requirement, but if you don’t want to potentially have to share a helmet or require more than an XL helmet it is recommended.
Some supplies you might want to bring with you but are not required are:
-
- Tire pressure gauge
- We require that you list your tire pressure on your tech sheets the day of the event, but we have gauges you can borrow
- Tools
- If you are mechanically inclined you may want to pack tools to either make repairs or changes to your car.
- We have tools onsite that you can borrow if needed
- Food & Drinks
- During the summer months, we will always have water on site but you are always free to bring whatever food and drink you would like (Non-alcoholic beverages only)
- Sunscreen
- During the summer you will be exposed to the sun for long periods of time so be prepared to protect your skin.
- Chairs
- We are located in a field and while there is seating on the bus, if you wish to sit near your vehicle you’ll likely want to bring a chair with you.
- Tire pressure gauge
Frequently Asked Questions
The first step is to actually show up to an event. RallyX is one of the most laid-back groups in the SCCA and the committee members and competitors are always willing and ready to answer any questions you may have or give you advice about just about anything when it comes to rallying. We have competitors ranging from junkyard armatures to stage rally drivers so no matter what your goal is with RallyX there will be someone around who can point you in the right direction. Check out our Facebook group to start talking to other RallyX racers and get all of your questions answered before your first event.
Head on over to the Schedule page to find out when the next event is going to be and get more information about how to register.
Head on over to the SCCA RallyCross Cars and Rules to figure out what class your car will fall into before registration. If you’re not sure how to class your car then feel free to email Juan Johnson at juanjoh77@gmail.com and he will more than happily help you figure out what class to put your car in.
If your car meets the requirements of the these rules then you can rally. If you have any concerns about if your car is too low or if there is anything about your car that might make competing at an event difficult, email juanjoh77@gmail.com and he will once again be more than happy to help you figure out if rally is right for your car, and point you in the right direction for what to do if it’s not.
All you need to rally is a valid drivers license, and an SCCA legal car (see above), and a desire to go fast on dirt. You may like to bring your own helmet and or any tools you may want to work on your car, but we have loaner helmets and tools on site for people to use if need be. We also usually have water available during the hotter months of summer, but feel free to bring your own. If you forget we’ve got you covered.
It entirely depends on your car, wheel, and tire set up. If you’re new to the sport we encourage you just asks one of us ahead of time or at the event and we should be able to get you squared away.
Absolutely! We love to have spectators on site and it is open to all ages as well as pets as long as they are secured and or being looked after.
As long as they are over the age of 12 and are 54″ or taller they are more than welcome to ride along with you if you want to compete, just make sure to tell registration so we can have you sign a child waiver. (Both parents must sign the waiver even if separated)
If they’re just coming to spectate they can be any age as long as both parents are present to sign the minor waiver.
SCCA Members: $50 (+$5 day of the event)
Non-SCCA Members: $65 ( +$5 Day of the event) also Includes weekend SCCA membership good towards a $10 discount on full membership
Ride alongs: Free!
Spectators: Free!
While this is the assumption and most often recited concern towards RallyX, most cars compete without encountering any issues short of minor paint chips and scratches. We recently relocated to a smoother surface to race on so while in the past there were a few independent instances where a car DNF’d most if not all of that risk is gone now. If you have any questions email Juan at juanjoh77@gmail.com again or just post about it on our Facebook group for more information.
Events are held at "The Backyard" in Troy, MO. See Map
Awesome! Email Juan at juanjoh77@gmail.com again or just post about it on our Facebook group and we’ll get ahold of you! We also have regular committee meetings that are posted on our FB page and the Region calendar that you can also attend. There is an endless list of things that we can use help with so if you have the time and willingness to help us put on an event, we will find something for you to do.
Second verse same as the first, If your questions aren’t answered on this page or the about page on the site then don’t hesitate to ask us and we will shoot you an answer asap. Just send your questions to Juan at juanjoh77@gmail.com .
